SUMMARY

As a composer, I am most interested in function. In my experience, the most meaningful art is functional both in basic ways and also in ways more esoteric. I believe that many artists lose, or are without, sight of shape and form. Intuition leads knowledge and function, but they can not stand on their own.

Composed original music for multimedia, including film, television and Internet.  Negotiated mutually beneficial contracts with clients.  Produced demos for potential clients.  Delivered professional soundtracks within given time frames.

Orchestrator/Arranger, Self-employed, Los Angeles, CA             2006-present

Orchestrated, arranged or transcribed for various projects.  Performed score supervision during recording sessions.  Prepared scores and parts for performing musicians.

Accompanied choirs, cantors and other soloists for both secular and religious performances or services.  Assisted soloists and choirs with repertoire and interpretation.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Music Teacher, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, La Cañada, CA                  2005-2006; 2009-present

Taught five periods of music to a diverse female student body.  Implemented strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on students’ prior knowledge and experience.  Courses taught included Advanced Placement Music Theory, Chamber Ensemble, and two independent studies focusing on composition and arranging.  Maintained a piano studio of thirteen and coordinated regular lessons for students.  Arranged music for various sized ensembles. Participated in governance activities for the school, including Friends of the Arts.  Served as the Music Director for the production of Kiss Me Kate.

Instructor, Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, Pasadena, CA                        2008-present

Conduct three classes of theory and musicianship (Levels IV and VI) for students ranging in age from eight to fifteen.  Develop all curriculum and lesson plans including creation of worksheets and exams.  For level IV, train students to identify intervals, scales and modes, mark and number complex rhythms, and analyze major scale chord function.  For level VI, train students to use basic arranging and composition techniques and mentor students through a final choral arranging project.

Assistant Music Director, Pasadena Unified School District, Pasadena, CA             2006

The GATE Summer Musical Theatre Program is presented in association with the Pasadena Unified School District’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Office.  Coached lead actors and singers.  Rehearsed and instructed choristers in their respective parts.  Rehearsed pit musicians.
